Not only is today Friday, but it’s the beginning of a 3-day weekend.  What made it even better is the fact that I started the day with breakfast at Rue 57 with Kate Sandoval, beauty editor at O, The Oprah Magazine.
For all the non-publicists out there, these are actually “work” breakfasts where I’m supposed to gauge the editor’s interest in my client’s products and get a sense of the beauty stories they have in the works where my clients could potentially fit.  I tend to spend at least 50% of the meal doing the “work” stuff, but today it was more like 5% as I spent the majority of the time actually getting to know Kate, and you know what?  She’s a pretty awesome gal!
Not only is Kate unbelievably down to earth, but really thoughtful and sweet.  I’ve worked with some editors who are all “me, me, me” (and I tend to refrain from retelling those stories on this blog), but Kate showed a real, genuine interest in me and my coworker, and provided some real insight into the issues we’re all currently dealing with.
The best part of the meal was downing 5 cups of coffee, which is making the rest of the morning fly by!  6 pm, here I come!
