The last 24 hours have been a whirlwind. Here’s the breakdown.
-My apartment in the West Village stayed safe by one block from tremendous flooding.
-Power went out right as we began a Homeland marathon.  As the lights began to dim, Joel and I looked at each other with a “wow - this is happening” look.
-Feeling a bit antsy, we decided to peek outside and see what was what.  Bad idea (sorry Mom!)  In just one block (we couldn’t do any more - it was that bad), we witnessed a shattered glass window, a corrugated metal panel flying around and trees blocking the street.  At one point, the wind became so strong, we had to duck into a small doorway to avoid the debris hitting us.
-We came back home and within 30 minutes, our phones were out. Although loss of power was anticipated, I never thought phone disruption was a possibility.
-This afternoon, after hours of reading, playing cards and not know what to do next, and more importantly, knowing my parents were probably freaking out since they couldn’t get in touch with us, we decided it was time to move uptown.
-After over an hour of trying, we finally hailed a taxi van, along with three random West Village neighbors, including the 12 week old Bernese Mountain Dog pictured above. Furry storm friends FTW!
-We made our way to the Upper West Side where we are now hibernating with friends, electricity, wine and cheese.
